The Armour of God: The Sword of the Spirit!

Read:

Ephesians 6:14-17 (NIV): Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

Act:

This month we are going to learn about the sixth piece of God’s amazing Armour: The Sword of the Spirit.

The sword of the Spirit is all about the power of God’s Word. By studying the Bible, we learn who God our Creator is, His promises for us and the right way of living a Godly life.

Why is it important for us to carry the sword of the Spirit?

– The sword of the Spirit helps us to overcome temptations by fighting our spiritual battles and standing firm on the Word of God. In Hebrews 4:12, we learn that the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword… That’s a pretty powerful weapon we received from God!

– Did you know that God calls Satan the father of all lies? Satan loves to try and confuse us with lies and doubts about God! This means the best way to fight against our enemy is with God’s Word, which is the ONLY TRUTH we can rely on! So, the more we read our Bibles, the clearer we’ll see Satan’s lies and the more we will trust in what God says the truth is!

– If we have the truth of God’s Word hidden in our hearts, we can reflect God’s love to the people around us by living out what we believe and know to be true about God and our faith in Him!

We could be the only Bible some people will ever read – so our faith on display is very important!

Since the sword of the Spirit is God’s Word… our Bibles, let us read His Word daily to learn about God and memorize scripture so that we can know the truth, and the truth will set us free (read John 8:32).

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the gift of Your Word, which is the lamp to our feet and a light to our path! Thank You that Your Word can help us to overcome all the attacks of the enemy. Please help us tuck Your Word deep into our hearts, so that we can be filled with Your TRUTH!
