God is in control!
Read:
Isaiah 46:9-10 (AMP): “Remember [carefully] the former things [which I did] from ages past; For I am God, and there is no one else; I am God, and there is no one like Me, Declaring the end and the result from the beginning, And from ancient times the things which have not [yet] been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will do all that pleases Me and fulfills My purpose’…”
Act:
Let us be determined this week to believe that GOD IS IN CONTROL:
The Bible teaches us that God is sovereign.
He is infinitely elevated, the Lord Most High, Lord of Heaven and Earth, supreme in His majesty, self-existent, self-sufficient and self-directed (Psalm 113:4-6, 148:13; Revelation 1:8, 19:6; 2 Chronicles 2:6).
God is all-powerful – He lacks nothing, He has power over ALL things and everyone, His power is limitless (Psalm 62:11; Romans 11:36; 2 Peter 1:3; Revelation 11:17, 19:6).
God has all authority – He is entirely free, subject to none, influenced by none, not caught off-guard or unprepared, He is boundless, limitless and immeasurable. He is absolutely independent; no one or thing can stop or hinder God – He does as He pleases everywhere and forever (Psalm 115:3, 135:6; Job 23:13, 42:2; Isaiah 43:13, 46:10).
Also, our Lord is all-knowing – He possesses all knowledge and wisdom; He knows about everything, every second of every day (Psalm 139:1-4, 147:5, Hebrews 4:13; Romans 11:33; 1 John 3:20).
What does all of this mean?
Our Sovereign Lord does whatever He wants, however He wants, whenever He wants. He is the creator, and He does with His creation whatever He pleases. He has a plan for everything that happens. He is ultimately in control of everything.
Let’s believe wholeheartedly that God’s sovereignty enables us to:
Take comfort and rest in Him. Nothing in the universe happens without God’s direction or permission – as we read in Ephesians 1:11: “…all things work according to His will…” and in Job 25:2: “God is sovereign, God is fearsome— everything in the cosmos fits and works in His plan”. God has a plan for everything that happens; and neither ourselves (in our own finite wisdom) or Satan can counter God’s plans (Job 42:2). This gives us great assurance and confidence, that whatever our circumstances, and however uncertain this year may look, our Heavenly Father is in control. He “…accomplishes all things on our behalf – for He completes our purpose in His greater plan” (Psalm 57:2). Yes – everything won’t always be as we wish – we may face difficulties and pain – sometimes life takes unexpected turns. But we do have a responsibility to live intentional lives, and to seek and obey God’s will in everything. It is ultimately God who directs and establishes our steps (Proverbs 16:9, 16:33, 19:21, 20:24; Jeremiah 10:23). God’s sovereignty therefore means that we can trust in and rely on Him. Let’s stop striving to take matters into our own hands. Let’s surrender our lives to Him and rest in His great power – knowing that everything will be alright as we seek Him first in all we do and all we are.
Have hope for an amazing future. God planned and created us. He predestined our future, and He is there, every step of the way, to lead us to our final destination (Jeremiah 29:11-13; Romans 8:28). Let’s recommit our lives to submit to God’s authority. Let’s truly seek Him above all! Let’s spend time with Him, and in His Word. Let’s allow His light, love and hope to permeate our entire beings. Let’s go out and connect with others – putting our amazing Lord and Saviour on display, and allowing His love, joy and peace to fill and overflow from our lives!
Pray:
Our Father in Heaven, all glory, praise and honour to You! You are great in power, victorious, majestic – there is none like You! Father, today we submit our actions, choices, nature – everything (all that we are and all that we have) to Your authority. We declare that You are in control of our lives. We dedicate this year to You. Please lead and direct us to live according to Your will. Father help us to know You more, to love You more, and to walk in an intimate relationship with You. We believe that You are in control of our lives and that You are working everything together for our good as we trust and obey You. May Your name be exalted and glorified on Earth as it is in Heaven. Amen.
