Becoming, Not Just Believing: The invitation to live like the One we follow
Read:
John 15:14–15 (NIV): “You are My friends if you do what I command… I have called you friends.”
Luke 6:40 (NIV): “The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.”
2 Corinthians 3:18 (NIV): “We… are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory.”
Act:
Let us be determined this week to:
Choose transformation over information. Knowing more about Jesus is wonderful. Becoming more like Jesus is God’s desire for each one of us. Every day, the Holy Spirit is shaping us into the likeness of Christ. The goal of discipleship is not simply to know Jesus better, but to reflect Him more clearly.
Stay close enough to be changed. People become like those they spend time with. The same is true spiritually. The more we remain with Jesus, the more His peace shapes our anxiety, His humility softens our pride, His compassion transforms our hearts, and His love becomes our way of life. Time in the presence of Jesus always leaves its imprint upon the heart.
Let obedience become an expression of love. Jesus never separated love from obedience. Not because obedience earns His love, but because love delights in following Him. Every act of surrender becomes another opportunity for Christ to be formed within us. Obedience is not the price of relationship; it is the fruit of relationship.
Live as a friend of Jesus. What an extraordinary invitation. The King of kings calls His disciples friends. Friends walk together. Friends listen. Friends trust one another. May we never reduce our faith to duty when Jesus has invited us into friendship with Himself. The deepest transformation is born from intimacy, not obligation.
Leave behind the fragrance of Christ. The world does not simply need more opinions about Jesus. It needs people who reveal Jesus. May our words bring hope. May our actions reflect grace. May our lives quietly point others to Him. Our greatest witness is not simply what we say about Jesus, but what people see of Jesus in us.
Pray:
Lord Jesus, thank You for calling us not only to believe in You, but to follow You. Thank You for inviting us into friendship with You and for patiently shaping us into Your likeness. Forgive us for the times we have settled for knowing about You without allowing You to change us. Teach us to remain close enough that Your heart becomes our heart, Your compassion becomes our compassion, and Your humility becomes our way of life.
Holy Spirit, continue Your transforming work within us. Refine our thoughts. Purify our motives. Shape our character. May our homes, our workplaces, our conversations, and our relationships increasingly reflect the beauty of Christ.
Help us to live in such close fellowship with You, Jesus, that others encounter Your love through our lives. May everything we are and everything we do bring honour and glory to You alone.
In Your precious Name,
Amen.
Remember: The greatest evidence that we know Jesus is not simply that we believe in Him—it is that, by His grace, we are becoming more like Him. So stay close. Keep listening. Keep following. Because the longer we walk with Jesus, the more the world should see Jesus in us.
