Between the First Word and the Final Amen: Faithfulness while the story is still unfolding
Read:
Revelation 22:13 (NKJV): “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
Galatians 2:20 (NKJV): “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…”
Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV): “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…”
Act:
Let us be determined this week to:
Give Jesus the whole story. It is possible to trust God with eternity while still trying to control tomorrow. Our timing. Our expectations. Our carefully protected plans. Our preferred outcome. But the Lordship of Jesus cannot be confined to the parts of life we understand. Galatians 2:20 reminds us that our lives are no longer ultimately our own. We belong to Christ. And surrender is not the loss of something precious into unsafe hands. It is the placing of everything we treasure into the hands of the One who loved us enough to give Himself for us.
Be faithful with the page we are living now. We do not need tomorrow’s clarity to give Jesus today’s obedience. Sometimes faithfulness looks wonderfully ordinary. Praying when nothing appears to change. Choosing integrity when nobody sees. Forgiving when resentment would be easier. Serving without recognition. Taking one obedient step when the whole road remains hidden. The in-between is not wasted space. It is holy ground where faith becomes visible. And we do not walk it in our own strength. God’s Spirit is present and powerful, enabling us to live as faithful witnesses to Christ in the very places that remain unresolved.
Build our hope on Christ, not on a particular ending. Faith is not confidence that every chapter will conclude exactly as we hoped. Hope rests somewhere far stronger. In Jesus Himself. The cross has already settled the depth of His love. The empty tomb has already declared His victory. And the risen Christ assures us that whatever remains unfinished here is not beyond His sovereign authority. So when circumstances refuse to explain themselves, we do not have to manufacture certainty. We look to Jesus.
Pray:
Father God, You are Lord from beginning to end. Today we place before You every unanswered prayer, every uncertain future, every place we have tried to control. Teach us to trust You without demanding that we understand everything first. Give us grace for today’s obedience. Strength for today’s weakness. Wisdom for today’s decisions.
Holy Spirit, keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. When circumstances feel unfinished, remind us that Your character is complete. When we cannot see ahead, teach us to walk closely with You now. And may our lives honour Christ, not only when prayers are answered, but while we are still waiting.
All glory, all honour, all praise belongs to You.
In Jesus’ precious Name,
Amen.
Remember: An unfinished chapter does not mean an uncertain Christ. We may not know the next sentence. We may not understand the turn in the road. We may still be waiting for what comes next. But we are not held by our ability to predict the future. We are held by Jesus. And perhaps that is enough for today. So let us stop demanding the whole story and faithfully live the page He has placed before us. Because between the first word and the final Amen, our greatest calling is not to understand everything. It is to remain faithful to Jesus. The story may still be unfolding. But Christ is already and will always be Lord of lords and King of kings.
