Before the Next Step: God does not only want to lead us where to go—He wants to show us how to walk there

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV): “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Psalm 32:8 (NIV): “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on you.”

John 14:6 (NKJV): “I am the way, the truth, and the life…”

Act:

Let us be determined this week to:

Pause before we proceed. Before the decision. Before the response. Before saying yes. Before sending the message. Before solving the problem our way. Let us seek God first. Not as our final option, but as our first response. Because prayer is not merely asking God to approve where we are going. Prayer invites God to lead.
 
Listen beyond what seems right. Our experience may say, “We know how to handle this.” Our feelings may say, “This makes sense.” Everyone around us may even agree. But God’s wisdom must carry greater authority than our assumptions. David’s experience reminds us that sincere intention cannot replace surrendered obedience.  So let us ask: “Lord, what are You saying? What are You asking? What does Your Word require of us here?”
 
Obey the next thing God makes clear. We often want the whole map. God frequently gives us the next step. And obedience is where listening becomes faith in motion. James reminds us not merely to hear the Word, but to do what it says.  We do not need enough light for the entire journey. We need enough faith to obey God in the step before us. This is where surrender becomes freedom. We listen. We obey. And then—we trust. We release the outcome. We release the timing. We release our need to control what happens next. Because if God is truly leading us, we do not have to force what only He can fulfil. Our responsibility is obedience. The outcome belongs to God.

Pray:

Father God, You are infinitely wiser than we are. Forgive us for the times we have rushed ahead with good intentions but without seeking Your heart. For the times we have asked You to bless our plans instead of surrendering them to Yours.

Today, we choose a different rhythm: Listen. Obey. Trust.

Holy Spirit, quiet the noise within us so we can discern Your leading. Where we are relying on our own wisdom, teach us to seek Yours. Where You have already spoken, give us courage to obey. Where we cannot see beyond the next step, give us faith to trust.

Jesus, You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. So, we do not merely want Your blessing on the road we choose. We want You to choose the road.

Lead our decisions. Lead our conversations. Lead our relationships. Lead our families. Lead our ministries. Lead every detail of our lives. And may every step we take bring glory and honour to Your Name.

 Remember: God’s will is not merely a destination to reach. It is a relationship in which we learn to walk with Him. So, before we rush—pause. Before we decide—seek. When God speaks—obey. And when we cannot see what comes next—trust. We do not have to know the entire journey. We only need to stay close to the One who does. And perhaps that is the deeper invitation: We are not simply asking God to show us the way. We are learning to walk with the One who IS the Way.
