When Understanding isn’t Enough: The freedom of trusting beyond what makes sense
Read:
Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Isaiah 55:8–9 (NIV): “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.
Hebrews 12:2 (NIV): “Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
Act:
Let us be determined this week to:
Release the need to understand everything. Not every question receives an explanation. Every question can be surrendered to Christ. Peace does not come when every question is answered. Peace comes when every question is surrendered.
Lean on God’s character instead of our own reasoning. Our understanding is limited. God’s wisdom is not. When we cannot trace His hand, we can always trust His heart. Faith stands securely where understanding reaches its limit.
Worship while we wait. Understanding often comes later. Worship can happen now. Instead of allowing unanswered questions to pull us away from God, let them draw us nearer. Trust learns to sing before it understands.
Keep our eyes on Jesus. Answers may satisfy the mind for a moment. Jesus satisfies the soul forever. When Christ becomes our focus, uncertainty loses much of its power. The more we behold Jesus, the less we are ruled by what we cannot explain.
Let mystery deepen our faith. Not everything God does will fit inside our understanding. Some things are simply too wonderful for us to comprehend. Rather than creating distance, let mystery produce worship. The unknown becomes less frightening when it belongs to a God who is perfectly good.
Pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You that Your wisdom is higher than ours, Your ways are greater than ours, and Your faithfulness never fails. Forgive us for the times we have demanded understanding before offering You our trust.
Teach us to release our questions into Your loving hands. When life does not make sense, help us to remember that You are still good. When answers do not come, remind us that Your presence is enough. Lift our eyes above our circumstances and fix them firmly upon You, Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith.
Help us to trust You more deeply than we trust our own understanding. Help us to worship while we wait, obey while we trust, and rest in the certainty of Your unfailing love. May our confidence always be found in who You are, rather than in what we can explain. For You alone are worthy of our trust, our worship, and our whole hearts.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
Remember: Not everything in life will make sense. But everything can become sacred when it leads us to trust the heart of God more deeply. So release the burden of needing to understand everything. Choose trust over certainty. Choose worship over worry. Choose Jesus over explanations. Because faith does not require every answer. It only requires a heart that knows the One who does.
