A Christ-like Character
Read:
1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV): “…The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Psalm 51:10-12 (NIV): “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
Galatians 5:22–23 (NKJV): “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”
Act:
Let us be determined this week to:
Recognise that as children of God, our character matters profoundly. It’s not just about what we do but also about who we are becoming in Christ. Our actions, words and attitudes reflect our relationship with Him and impact those around us. So, may we daily long to embody the fruits of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). May we never forget that our character shapes how we fulfil our calling in God’s Kingdom. It influences how we treat others, handle challenges, and represent Christ. Let us always act with integrity and be willing to confess moments when our words and actions fell short of reflecting God’s character.
Be sensitive to and accept the responsibility of the calling and leading that God has placed on each of our hearts. May we serve Him with our unique gifts and live each day with purpose for His glory. May our commitment to God’s mission always remain steadfast, continually seeking to serve Him and bring others to know His love. So, let us bring those times when we thought we were serving God wholeheartedly, while actually lacking the zeal needed to advance His Kingdom before Him. By acknowledging these shortcomings, we open ourselves to God’s transformative power, allowing Him to refresh our spirits and reignite our passion for His work.
Grow in grace and wisdom by being rooted in Scripture and prayer. It is only by living out God’s truth that we can reflect the character of Christ, shine His light of hope, love and peace, and glorify Him in every aspect of our lives.
Pray:
Abba, today I pray that every one of us will bear the fruit of the Spirit, that we will not walk in the works of the flesh but in the fruit of the Spirit. We thank You for life and for allowing us to celebrate life. In the name of Yeshua.
Dear God, we thank You for who You are and what You have done in our lives. You created us in Your own image. You know all our thoughts before we speak them. You examine our hearts and know our intentions. Today, we confess our need for You. You promised that if we confess our sins, You will forgive us and make us clean again. Lord, forgive us for the times we spoke and behaved in ways that did not reflect the character and attitude of Jesus. Help us develop a character that pleases You and honours others. In Psalm 25:21 it says, “May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, LORD, is in you.”
Father, we confess that we sometimes lose our edge. We sometimes pretend to serve in ministry while losing our edge to advance Your Kingdom. Please forgive us, refresh us, and restore us. In the name of Jesus, we pray that.
Lord Jesus, thank You that all of us are not alike and that we don’t have the same gifts. How excellent it is to have all of us work together for Your glory, Your church, one body, one Spirit. You are our hope and our salvation. Thank You for the opportunity You’ve given us to love others in Your name. Use us in the way You want to, Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray.
O Lord Jesus, we thank You so much for Your great love for us. We praise You for all that You do! We just long to live our lives with purpose, Lord, a purpose that pleases You. May we be faithful to keep the ‘Divine Appointments’ that You have set up for us to share the saving power of Jesus. We thank You that, as we go about fulfilling our mission, we read in Psalm 71 the great gifts that You have for us – hope, security, strength, and encouragement. May we never take any of Your great gifts for granted – especially our salvation. We thank You, and we love You. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
