Love God with all your Heart, Soul and Mind!
Read:
Matthew 22:35–40 (NLT): “One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap Him with this question: “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
Act:
Let us be determined this week to:
Love God with all our hearts, souls, and minds, aligning every aspect of our lives (our thoughts, emotions, decisions, and actions) to His will and purpose. Let us devote (or re-devote) ourselves exclusively to God, finding our deepest fulfilment and identity in Him alone and trusting Him for wisdom and discernment. Throughout the ages, God made several covenants with His people, revealing His unwavering commitment to us. Even despite our struggles, He made the ultimate covenant through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ, showing us how to love Him unconditionally. When we love God fully, His love flows through us to others. However, if we’re truly honest, we must admit that we sometimes struggle to love others the way God loves us. So, let us allow the Holy Spirit to work in our hearts, filling us afresh with God’s love.
Always embody God’s faithfulness, love and patience with one another. For even our smallest acts of faithfulness can have a significant impact, like compound interest. Our efforts, no matter how small, contribute to something much larger in the Kingdom of God. So, may we live in such a way that God will one day look into our eyes and say, “Well done, My good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23).
Pray:
Oh, Lord Jesus, You are such a marvellous God. May we reflect You well in every circumstance, not just to the rest of the world, but to one another. May our lives together point others to You. May we share boldly that it is only Your covenant with us, through Your Son, Jesus Christ, that gives us joy and purpose in our lives, for our time on this earth and for eternity. In Jesus’ precious name.
Father full of grace and mercy, I want to thank You, Lord, that we could open Your Word today, we could read from Your Word, and we could be inspired, Lord, on how to love You on a deeper level, Lord. Not just to know the commandment, “Love the Lord with all your heart.” Not just to say it, but to truly live it out, Lord. Would You help us to live out this commandment to the true potential and to the true fullness that You expected us to live it out, Lord? Help us to fall in love with You again. Father God, I pray that we will be able to do this right, Lord, and continue to live a righteous life, Lord, so we can truly love our neighbours the way You taught us to love, Father. In Jesus’ mighty name.
Father, teach us consistency and faithfulness. Lord, the day-to-day walk with You is so much more important than the one, the two or maybe three big things that we as people can do in our lives. And often, the big things that we do really mean so little to You in Your Kingdom. Guide us, Lord, through Your Holy Spirit and let Your will be done so that it be to the blessing of Your name, always. We pray it in Jesus’ name.
So, Father, we thank You for Your unconditional love. We thank You for the fact that we can profoundly and deeply know and believe that You have never left us. Even directly after the fall, directly after sin and death came into the world, You started looking for us. You called out to Adam, “Where are you?” And today, You’re calling us back as well. And may our hearts answer, “Father, here I am.” And it doesn’t matter where you are. He’s ready to accept you and to pick you up, to heal you, to love you and to get you back on your feet so that you might do the same to the next person in that same situation.
So Father, we thank You that we can come in the state we are. Lord, firstly, we are saved, and we are made righteous, we’ve been atoned for. But Father, our love for other people has not yet been made perfected. We need You to help us. To walk into that process of making us perfect and making us more into the image of what love is. Love is eternal, and it’s beautiful. And it is love that leads to the greatest secure attachment that any of us could ever hope or dream. We have no idea how deep Your love is for us. And we want You to show us how deep Your love is. Send Your Spirit, Lord, to break it open in our hearts and show us Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
