Are you filled to overflowing?

Read:

Matthew 11:28-30 (ESV): “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

John 7:38 (ESV): “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

Act:

Let us be determined this week to live lives overflowing with Jesus! How do we do that?

By intentionally seeking God and asking Him to be the Lord of our lives. God proclaims in His Word that He will never leave or forsake us, but He is such a gentleman Lord that He will not barge into our lives. As we are reminded in Revelation 3:20 (NIV), Jesus says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”Jesus says, “Just invite me in. Open the door. We’ll enjoy sweet fellowship as we handle whatever you face – together.” What a great invitation!

By examining our hearts to see if we are truly YIELDING to the will of God. We fill our lives with Jesus and glorify God by yielding to His instructions. To hear Him speak, we need to seek intimacy with God and allow Him to transform our thoughts and actions. As part of our yielding to God’s Spirit, we need to obediently follow His leading, and do what He asks of us. May we all learn to say ‘YES’ when God calls us for an assignment. Our acts of obedience reflect our love toward Him. Even though we may not know where our ‘YES’ will take us, may we trust in God and allow Him to work in and through us. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. So, how do we start living out our ‘YES’? In Luke 16:10 (NIV), we learn, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” May we start by fulfilling whatever God asks of us, even if it seems to be a small assignment. As we feel His guidance to complete the task, He will give us more to accomplish for Him. How exciting!

By asking God for wisdom and good discernment to fill our hearts and minds. When we struggle with answers to earthly questions in our lives, God says in Jeremiah 33:3 (ESV), Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” He not only has the answers but is also willing to share them with us. All we need to do is ask, listen and be intentional about placing our attention on God. Instead of allowing our minds to drift towards the challenges of today, let’s focus on His love, guidance and provision. May we be diligent in waiting on the Lord – for His perfect timing in answers; for His guidance; for Him to fight on our behalf; and for us to find peace while we wait for those answers. May we find rest for our souls and be still in His presence as we refocus our hearts and minds on our Lord.

By allowing God to fill us with His love, presence, peace, and guidance – His Living Water! And as we receive more of Him, we should allow it to naturally flow out to those around us. As we are filled with Jesus, others will notice the difference and desire what we have. How wonderful to tell them that the difference in our lives, in our focus, in our peace, is Jesus. May we be ready, as the Lord reminds us in 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV), to “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” We have great hope and the Light of the world to share!

May we be filled to overflowing with Jesus!

Pray:

Father, I pray for each person listening to this. I thank You that You know each of us.  I pray that You would help us to say ‘YES’ in obedience to You. Thank You that we don’t do this alone. We do it filled with the Holy Spirit, and we do it with brothers and sisters cheering us on and helping us. Where two or more are gathered in Your name, we know that You’re there. So help us to say ‘YES’. Help us to speak less and to do more in obedience. It’s easy to say the right words but hard to do those right words. Help us I pray. In Jesus’ name.

Lord, we just thank You for all You do for us, and how You long for us to come and sit with You as our friend,  our teacher,  our comforter, and our counsellor. Lord, we give You this day. Our desire is to be obedient, to let our ‘YES’ be ‘YES’ and our ‘NO’ be ‘NO’ in obedience to You. We ask You to give us a heart of surrender: Ears to hear and eyes to see when Your Spirit is teaching us and showing us things. O thank You, Lord. Bless each person with elephant ears in Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name.

All praise be to You, Precious Jesus, Source of Living Water! Thank You for dying for our sins – that we may have free access to come and drink of Your Living, Life-giving Water. Help us to diligently guard our hearts, to recognize the burdens that come to weigh them down, and any sins that could stop the flow. Give us wisdom and discernment to not be distracted by worldly enticements and false teachings. And, in all things, draw us ever closer to You in these days. We want  You to be our constant source of Living Water, and we want to be a ‘bisse’ canal through which Your Waters can flow and bless others along our path.

Lord, we love You so much. Sometimes we find ourselves in a predicament where we start watching the ways of the world around us. We start looking at the Red Sea and we forget to keep our eyes focused on You as our Saviour. You are the One who took us out of Egypt, out of our slavery, out of our sinful nature. Lord, we want to ask You to help us to wait patiently in the Spirit. Help us to wait upon You for our next steps so that You can honour Your promise that you will fight for us if we wait upon you. Afterwards, we can give You the glory, because You are the only One who can get us out of these predicaments. Thank You for Your blessing on us, and that You never ever move from Your position above us. Help us to focus our eyes on You and to call upon You in a soft gentle Spirit Lord. We ask You to help us out of these difficult corners that we are in – where we see the devil on the one side and the deep Red Sea on the other. We are not sure which way to go, but we trust and rely on You Lord to find a way where we can’t find a way. We keep our eyes on You and we pray it in the name of Jesus.

Father God, we just want to thank You for the opportunity to be together, united in prayer and focused on You. We pray that You would help us to be intentional encouragers, to shine Your light, to bring Your hope to a dark world around us, Lord. Let the light that we shine and the heart-change we bring fuel everyone around us to turn to You, and make a difference and turn the darkness into light. Lord, we want to see Your glory on display. We want Your Kingdom to come into each and every one of our hearts, so that we can have the love of Jesus. We love You, and we pray all of these things in Your Holy name. Amen.
