Seeking God’s Face!
Read:
Psalm 14:2 (NKJV): “The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who SEEK God.”
Psalm 27:8 (NKJV): “When you said, ‘Seek My face, My heart said to You, ‘Your face, Lord, I will seek.’”
Act:
This week, let us focus on:
‘Seeking God’s face’ – which is not so much about seeing with our physical eyes, but more about longing to know our Heavenly Father’s character, and trusting Him to care for us when we call out to Him. Remember that God loves us so much that He will not barge His way into our lives. He says in Revelation 3:20 (NIV): “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” Jesus stands at the doorway of our lives, knocking and calling our names. He seeks a personal relationship with us, but He is a gentleman Lord. He will wait until we invite Him into our lives. So why do we hesitate? What stops us from ‘seeking God’s face’ and longing to be in His presence? Is it pride, thinking we can do everything in our strength and ability?
We need to realise that:
1 – We can be filled by God. May we allow our Lord to quench our hunger and thirst by filling us with the truth of His Word. As we spend daily time in His Word (‘seeking God’), our understanding of Him increases; our relationship with Him grows; our peace and joy are restored; our wisdom and discernment as good stewards increase; our trust in God multiplies; and our love for Jesus becomes evident in the light radiating from our lives. By allowing God to fill our hearts and minds, we receive the power to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
2 – We can depend on God. God tells us repeatedly in His Word that He will help us. Let’s resist being discouraged in our struggles and the challenges of this world. Let’s rather choose to see them as gifted moments to dive into the presence of God (‘seeking His face’), entrusting our concerns into His loving and gracious hands. As we learn in 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV): “The Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”
So, may we always remember that God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is not like the world around us, which is constantly changing. We can trust in Him to see us through every second of every day because He gives us the strength to endure all things with grace! May we never stop ‘seeking God’s face’!
Pray:
Heavenly Father, our ABBA Father, our Father in heaven. I speak the name of Jesus. I pray that the Word of God will enter our hearts like never ever before. May we know today Lord, that nothing, nothing, nothing – not a war in the Ukraine, not cancer, not a health problem – is too hard for You to overcome. We call out to You Lord, to move the mountain, to move the giant, to move the nightmare. Thank You that we can trust You, Father, that You really want to do it now. Thank You that we can trust You, Lord. In Jesus’ name.
Thank You, Father, for being here with us today. We are needy people. We need You every day and every hour of every day! Thank You that You promise that You are there for us all the time, and You teach us to completely depend upon You in every little or big situation.
O God, You are our great defender. God, no one can challenge You. You never lose a battle. Help us remember God, that You are Sovereign and nothing can fail Your perfect purposes. Help us remember that as Your children, we can know You: we can know You through the Word of God. You are the same God who was with the Israelites; You are the same God who was in the womb of the whale when Jonah cried out to You in repentance. You are the same God who always battles on behalf of Your people. God, You are amazing. You are almighty, and You have blessed us, not just through Your Word but through Your Holy Spirit. We are covered by the blood of Jesus Christ. Remind us, God, to not fear. Help us God to be hope and light for those who don’t know You. We thank You in the name of Jesus Christ.
Dear Father, we thank You that You have created us for a role that is totally suited to us. Thank you for our homes, the domain You have given us, where we will find Your blessing and glory. Please help us to understand Your ways, in Jesus’ Name.
We come before You as Your humble servants, asking that You draw us close to Yourself, that You continue the work that You have started in each of us. We trust You with all of our human frailties. Help us to hear only Your loving voice. Help us to see only Your loving face. Fill us with Your redeeming love, and may Your heavenly face be so evident in each of us that others will see and feel Your love and complete acceptance. When we gaze into one another’s eyes, may we see You. In Jesus holy name, we pray. Amen.
