What has power in your life?

Read:

Romans 6:6 (NLT): “We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ, so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.”
Romans 6:11 (NLT): “So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin, and alive to God through Christ Jesus.”

Act:

Let us be determined this week to:

Demonstrate that we are free and equipped to grow in Christ’s likeness every day because of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. May our decisions show the world that we are following Jesus. Dying to our old life means that the things of this world no longer take priority in our lives. Our sinful ways and worldly lifestyles are gone – washed away by the blood of Jesus. We no longer need to be who we were. We can grow and be transformed into all God has created us to be. Through the Apostle Paul in Galatians 2:20 (NLT), we can declare: “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Take hold of the spiritual weapons we have been given to defeat the enemy and overcome our sinful nature. Let’s consider the following 2 Spiritual weapons:

1 – Prayer. Prayer is powerful, prayer is a blessing, and prayer can overcome all things! May we use the ‘weapon of prayer’ to worship God, whether we’re in a season of sacrificial sowing or one of reaping the blessings of our obedience. May we pray and intercede for those around us, faithfully standing in the gap and fighting against sin together with them. And may we allow the Holy Spirit to direct our thoughts and prayers.

2 – The testimony of our faith. The choices we make about the way that we live and react to difficulties reflect the faith and hope we profess in Christ Jesus. May we constantly be examining our hearts in prayer, so that we are not hindered in our walk of faith. Let’s pray with the Psalmist in Psalm 51:10 (NIV): “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me”. Lord, help us listen to Your voice and follow Your will, so that our lives will be a living testimony that reflects Your glory!

May we live out our faith each day in the light of Christ through the forgiveness of our sins, for the world to witness, repent and turn to God.

Pray:

God, we thank You and we praise You for this awesome, magnificent, huge thought: that we can know our Father, and what You have done in Christ. You have positioned us in Christ, so that we can be in right standing with You. You have positioned us in Christ, our life hidden in Him, for Your glory and Your holy name Father. I thank and praise You that I can say today that it’s Christ living in me.

Oh gracious heavenly Father, thank You so much for this time together. I ask that You allow us to become rooted in You, just as a tree is rooted underground and then grows and flourishes above the surface. Lord, let us see that change in our lives as well. Let us see the leaves bloom and change colours and continue to grow year after year. Just as we can study a cut tree trunk and count the rings to know how old the tree is, let us be an example unto others, and the change that everyone sees. Lord, we thank You, love You, and adore You.

Dear Father God, thank You so much for speaking to us today, for speaking into the deepest recesses of our hearts and allowing us to understand that You are with us. Please help us to be discerning as individuals, to see what’s going on in our lives that may be blocking Your grace. Lord, Your grace is so fully accessible to us. Thank You for speaking to us in a gentle, kind and loving way.  Your blessing is not only for us but for everyone else. Regardless of whether we’re praying for ourselves or others, You are there for us. Your grace is abundant, and Your love is everlasting. Thank You, dear Father.

Father, I pray today that we would choose to be overcomers. That we would position ourselves to be overcomers. And that in the end, our lives would be living testimonies to Your glory and Your power.

Father, I want to thank you for Your Word. Thank You that Your Word is alive, and that we can stand together today and say we want to choose life. We want to choose life because we love You. We want to obey You, and we want to cling to You. Thank You for the promised land that You have for every one of us. Thank You that we can walk in Your ways because we love You. Amen.
