Yet not My will, but Yours be done!
Read:
Luke 22:39-45 (NIV): “Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and His disciples followed Him. On reaching the place, He said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him. And being in anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. When He rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, He found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow”.
Act:
Let us be determined this week to:
Choose God’s will for our lives. May the earnest prayer of our hearts be: “…yet not my will, but Yours be done” …even when we don’t have all the answers, or if we are in a waiting season. Let’s rest in the truth that living according to God’s will is the best, safest and most satisfying place for us to be. May we choose today, to surrender all to our loving, kind and faithful Heavenly Father.
Choose hope. When we choose to fix our eyes on Jesus, our circumstances shrink, allowing us to grow in humility and trust in our unshakable God – our rock solid foundation. He is the One for whom nothing is impossible.
Choose to extravagantly worship and serve our Lord. Are our hearts so full of gratitude that our greatest desire is to sit at Jesus’ feet and anoint Him – worshiping and glorifying Him in all we do? May we always be doing something beautiful for Jesus… something beautiful for those around us… and something beautiful that will leave a legacy for generations to come.
Pray:
Jesus thank You for sharing the secrets of a life anchored in You. You promised us that if we seek You, we will discover and if we knock the door will be opened. Please here our prayers, open the doors for us and be our rock so we can live unshakable lives in Your honour.
Father God, thank You for Your love towards us. Thank You that you gave us Your Son to set us free, so we that we can have a relationship with You. Whatever burden we are carrying today, I ask that You help us to lay it down in an act of surrender, so that your perfect will can prevail in our lives. We long for You Father God. We long for Your Word to be a light to our feet and a lamp to our path.
Oh Lord Jesus, thank You that you said yes to the Father in the garden – that you surrendered Your will and went to the cross despite great anguish and sorrow over the weight of sin. Thank You Father, that You have not turned Your face from us, and that You never will. Thank You that You could never forget us, because our names are engraved in the palm of Your hand. Thank You that we are clothed in Christ’s robe of righteousness. Thank You that this is not our true home; and right now Jesus is preparing a place for us – and He lives to intercede for us.
Lord, You did something beautiful with Your life. Help us to let Your Kingdom come, to hallow Your Name. Father God, help us to do something beautiful, something extravagant. Help us to be in step with Your Holy Spirit, to hear when He speaks to us. And help us to be obedient. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Amen.
