The Shape of a Yes: When grace takes visible form in everyday life
Read:
2 Corinthians 3:18 (NIV): “We all… are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
Romans 12:2 (NIV): “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Philippians 2:13 (NIV): “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil His good purpose.”
Act:
Let us be determined this week to:
Begin with what Jesus has already done. Before there is obedience, there is grace. Before there is transformation, there is the cross. Before we ask, “What must we do differently?” we remember: “Whose are we?” Our failures do not name us. Our past does not own us. Other people’s words do not have final authority over us. Jesus does. Our identity is not built by our performance. It is received in Christ. And everything that follows begins there.
Allow truth to interrupt the old pattern. Old patterns often feel automatic. The thought comes. The emotion rises. The familiar reaction follows. But Romans 12 tells us that God renews the mind. That means we do not have to obey every thought we think. We do not have to believe every accusation we feel. We do not have to repeat every response we learned. There can be a holy interruption: “Lord, what is true here?” And slowly, by His Word and Spirit, truth begins occupying places where lies once lived.
Give grace a visible expression. Grace is invisible. But its fruit is not. Grace can look like an apology without an excuse. Forgiveness when bitterness would feel justified. Integrity when compromise would remain hidden. Gentleness when harshness would be easier. Beginning again after failure. These actions do not purchase grace. They are grace taking shape in a surrendered life. And perhaps the world will understand something of Jesus because it encounters His character becoming visible in us.
Pray:
Father God, thank You that we do not have to remake ourselves. You have given us Jesus. Thank You for the cross, for grace that saves, Your Word that renews, and Your Spirit who transforms.
Expose the lies we have carried for too long. Break the agreement between our minds and anything that contradicts Your truth. Teach us to recognise the moments where You are inviting us into a different response.
When fear rises, form faith.
When offence rises, form grace.
When temptation comes, strengthen obedience.
And when we stumble, lead us quickly back to Jesus.
May our lives increasingly agree with what You have already made true in Christ. Not for our glory but so that Jesus may be seen.
In Your precious Name,
Amen.
Remember: Grace does not merely change where we will spend eternity. It begins changing how we live today. One thought surrendered. One old pattern interrupted. One act of obedience. One quiet yes. And then another. Not perfection. Not performance. But the patient, powerful work of the Holy Spirit making Jesus increasingly visible. So perhaps the question for this week is beautifully simple: “What would our next yes to Jesus look like?” Because every time truth moves from what we believe into how we live, grace takes shape. And may the shape it increasingly takes in us look more and more like Jesus.
