What Feeds Our Souls? When Christ becomes our deepest desire

Read:

John 6:35 (NIV): “I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.”

Psalm 63:1 (NIV): “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek You; I thirst for You, my whole being longs for You.”

Colossians 3:1–4 (NIV): “Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is… For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God… Christ, who is your life…”

Act:

Let us be determined this week to:

Ask what is shaping our souls. Every day we are being formed by something. What captures our attention will eventually capture our affection. So let us ask ourselves honestly: “What has been feeding our love for Christ… and what has been quietly drawing our hearts away?” The soul is shaped by whatever it loves most.

Seek God’s face before His hand. It is easy for us to come to God for what He can do. But Jesus invites us to come because of who He is. His greatest gift has never been what He places in our hands. His greatest gift is His presence. The heart finds its truest home when it longs for the Giver more than His gifts.

Delight in Christ daily. The Bread of Life still speaks. Let us open His Word. Let us linger in His presence. Let us listen for His voice. Not because these are religious duties… but because love always longs to remain close. A heart that delights in Christ will not easily be captivated by the world.

Allow every longing to lead us back to Jesus. Every disappointment. Every empty place. Every unanswered prayer. Every restless moment. Can become an invitation to know Christ more deeply. Instead of allowing our longings to drive us toward lesser things, let them draw us closer to the One for whom we were created. Let us remember that every true longing of the soul ultimately points us back to Christ.

Live from the fullness of Christ. The Christian life is not about trying harder to satisfy our souls. It is about receiving the One who has already given Himself for us. The more we delight in Jesus, the less we need the world to convince us that it has something better to offer. The soul that treasures Christ discovers a joy the world can never manufacture or take away.

Pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life. Thank You that in Him we have everything we truly need. Forgive us for the times we have filled our hearts with things that cannot satisfy while neglecting the One who alone gives life. Create within us a deeper love for Jesus. Teach us to seek Your face before Your hand. May Your Word become our daily delight, Your presence our greatest treasure, and Your will our deepest joy.

When our hearts become distracted, draw us back. When we become weary, refresh us in Your presence. When we begin to chase lesser things, remind us that our lives are hidden with Christ, and that He alone is our life.

May our greatest desire not be for more blessings, but for a deeper knowledge of the One who has loved us, redeemed us, and called us His own. Form Christ within us, so that our lives may reflect His beauty and bring glory to Your Name. For Yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

 Remember: Our souls will always move toward what we treasure most. So let us treasure Christ. Let us seek His face before His hand. Let us desire His presence above His presents. Let us delight in His Word. Let us rest in His love. Because the greatest gift God has ever given is not merely something He gives… It is the gift of Himself through His Son. And when Christ becomes the deepest desire of our hearts, we discover that He has been the deepest need of our souls all along.
