God is good!
Read:
Psalm 106:1 (AMP): “Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!) Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His mercy and lovingkindness endure forever!”
Act:
Let us be determined this week to believe that GOD IS GOOD:
The dictionary defines GOODNESS as “the quality of being good” – and is similar to words like virtuous, righteous, honest, truthful, just, noble, honourable, kind, tender, loving, compassionate, good-willed, patient, generous, friendly and the list goes on… Do we believe these words to be true when we think about the GOODNESS OF GOD as one of His attributes? It is easy to believe God’s goodness when we are happy, and all is going well in our lives… But how quickly do we question God’s goodness when the storms of life hit us? Satan’s strategy is to cause us to doubt the goodness of God, especially when we go through trials and difficult situations. We find ourselves asking questions like: Why is God withholding His goodness in my life? If He is good, why is He allowing me to go through this storm, or to experience this pain?
The problem is – we cannot trust God completely if we do not believe in His goodness – if we do not believe His good will (in all circumstances) towards us. Psalm 34:8 reminds us about this: “O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good; How blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who takes refuge in Him”.
Let’s believe wholeheartedly that:
God is good – all the time! Because of His nature, God is good and everything He does is good (Genesis 1:31). Let’s deposit God’s Truth (His Word) about His goodness into our hearts, so that when hard times come, we are not driven by emotions or feelings, but by the condition of our hearts. Then, even if our minds do not agree, our souls will cry out: “My God is good! (Psalm 119:68); He loves me and is for me! (Psalm 145:8); He is good and will work all things together for my good! (Romans 8:28); I’ll praise my Father God through this storm, for He is good – all the time! (Psalm 106:1).”
God’s goodness is given to all! David reminds us in Psalm 145:8-9 that: “The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works [the entirety of things created]”. That means God’s goodness doesn’t only extend to those who do good or live righteous lives, but to all. In His essence He is good and does good (Matthew 5:45). So even when our human nature questions God’s goodness in our lives, let’s trust that He is who He says He is. Let’s trust in His good will towards us and trust that He wants the best for each and every one of us!
God’s goodness shows us the way. Our Father God is good, faithful and true – let’s take refuge in Him only and trust Him to direct our every step. He delights in teaching us the proper path and is always there to correct our course when we go astray (Psalm 25:8). His goodness, unfailing love and mercy will guide our way, all the days of our lives (Psalm 23:6).
Pray:
God, Your goodness is incomprehensible to our finite minds and we sometimes struggle to feel your goodness when we are faced with difficult or painful situations. Instill the Truth in our hearts, so that we may never doubt or believe the lies of the enemy. Father God, we choose today to believe that You are good! That You want the best for us! That You are for us and not against us! That You will never leave nor forsake us! That You are kind, loving, faithful, tender-hearted, endlessly patient, slow to anger and quick to forgive, compassionate, full of grace and mercy, and that you find pleasure in bestowing blessing and favour upon us, Your children. Thank You that You are good – all the time! God, to You be all the glory forever! Amen.
