The Meaning of Life

Read:

Ecclesiastes 1:2–3 (NIV): “’Meaningless! Meaningless!’” says the Teacher. ‘Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.’ What do people gain from all their labours at which they toil under the sun?”

Psalm 39:6–7 (NLT): “We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it. And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in You.”

Act:

Let us be determined this week to live by the following Biblical truths:

Apart from God, nothing truly satisfies. The pursuit of worldly things will always leave us longing for more.

It’s only in a relationship with God that we find real meaning and lasting fulfilment. He created us, knows us, and offers the peace and purpose our hearts deeply long for.

God’s wisdom and purpose are greater than ours. Life’s twists and turns may be confusing at times, but we can trust that God sees the bigger picture. His timing and plans are perfect, even when we don’t fully understand them.

We were made to glorify our Lord. Remember, every moment is an opportunity to reflect God’s goodness, faithfulness and love.

Surrender leads to satisfaction. In letting go of control, we find the freedom of being fully held by our Father.

True life is only found in our Lord. So, may we stop chasing what doesn’t last, seek God’s presence over worldly success, trust His unseen purposes, live to glorify Him, and surrender fully to our Great I Am.

Pray:

Father full of grace and mercy, without You everything else is meaningless, everything else will fade away. And so, Father God, I pray that our focus is shifted today on the things that matter most. But that mostly we focus on the Person who should matter most to us, and that is You. Give us the wisdom and the strength and most of all, obedience to follow You in Spirit and in truth.

Lord, thank You that we belong to You. Thank You that You are truth. And when we forget it, please remind us again. In Jesus’ Name.

Lord Jesus, You absolutely know our hearts. You know the times that we put ourselves above others. It started back in the garden, but it continues in our lives, each and every day. Please Lord, work in our hearts, so that indeed we might put You alone on the throne of our lives. Allow Your Holy Spirit to change us so that in truth we put You first, others second, and ourselves last.

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are the God of detail. You know our every thought. You know the why and how. We do not know. We honour You for Your goodness and mercy in our lives. Your mercies never come to an end. We bring You all the honour and all the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
