Stand Firm!

Read:

Ephesians 6:10–13 (NLT): “Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the Heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.”

Act:

Let us be determined this week to:

Tighten the belt of truth around our waists. When Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), He’s declaring, “I am the One who endures through everything. I will stand firm no matter what, and if you remain in Me, you will stand firm too.” This enduring truth is the foundation of our lives.

Fasten the breastplate of righteousness. Knowing that we are accepted by God gives us the confidence to stand in His presence. As new creations, part of God’s Household, our relationship with Him is made right. However, this acceptance calls us to act righteously toward others and take a stand against injustice.

Strap on our feet the Gospel of peace. We are called to share God’s peace with others, recognising that the unity of the Church is crucial in resisting the devil’s attempts to isolate and divide us.

Lift up the shield of faith. When we completely trust God and surrender everything to Him, we receive the gift of faith. Faith redirects our focus from our struggles to Christ’s victory, revealing a greater reality of God’s presence that sustains us even when doubt arises.

Put on the helmet of salvation. Salvation gives us hope and courage. Although we were once distant from God, we are now part of His family, bearing His identity – all thanks to the immeasurable gift of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, which bridges the gap between us and God.

Take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. The only offensive weapon in our spiritual armour is God’s Word, empowered by the Holy Spirit. When we feel overwhelmed or weak, God’s Word becomes our refuge, revealing His character and assuring us that He remains faithful through all the ages.

Pray:

Father, thank You that You have given us the truth, that we don’t have to scrabble about trying to work out what’s true and what’s not true. You have given us the truth. You’ve given us Your Son, Jesus Christ, and He is the truth. I pray that You will help each of us to stand. If there are things that are not yet sorted out in our own lives that prevent us from truly standing, then You would help us to see that, to see what it is You’re putting Your finger on. And that You’d give us the courage to be obedient to You as we stand, our eyes fixed on Jesus. These things we pray in His name.

Lord, we want to thank You for what You’re doing in our lives. Thank You that Your Spirit wins, that You are eternal, that You are sovereign, and that You are doing this incredible work, which is in us and through us to Your glory. We want to honour You for Your greatness in our lives. In Jesus’ name.

Thank you, Lord, for being who You are. I pray for each of us here who has a loved one who does not know You. You love them more than we do, and Your plan includes every human on this earth. I ask Your help to nurture our relationships with love and compassion, yet without compromising our faith. Thank You for Your truth and love. In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Oh, Lord Jesus, You know our hearts. You know that our deepest longing is to share You with other people. Oh Lord, we want others to grow closer to You as well. Lord, we know that as our Saviour, You have forgiven our sins – past, present and future. We love You, Lord! We thank You for Your great sacrifice for us. May our lives and our sharing reflect our thank You. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
